- French Oulipian (1936–1982) who made constraint a form of mourning: a 300-page novel without the letter e, an apartment block dissected room by room, a childhood reconstructed from the gaps. Bolaño dreams him as a small boy, hugs him, tries to console him — the tenderest thing in his poetry.
