- Viennese monumentalist (1895/96–1966) who spent twenty years turning one outdoor staircase into a novel about time, joined the Austrian Nazi party in 1933 and wrote his way out of it for the rest of his life; "Heimito" is a name almost nobody but him has ever had — itself a Germanized Spanish "Jaimito" — so Bolaño's Austrian anti-Semite carries the compromised master's Christian name and none of his prose.
